Terms of service
By using ProvenSubs you agree to what follows. It is written plainly on purpose; nothing here is hidden behind length.
What the service does
You upload subtitle files. We translate them into a target language, run every cue through a set of structural checks, attempt to repair whatever fails, and return the result. One credit covers roughly 20,000 characters — about one 25-minute episode.
Credits
- Credits are prepaid and are spent when a job starts, not when it finishes.
- If a job cannot start, its credits are returned automatically.
- Credits do not expire.
- Credits have no cash value and cannot be transferred between accounts.
What you upload
You are responsible for having the right to translate the material you upload. Do not upload anything you are not entitled to process. We do not review uploads in advance, but we will remove material and close accounts where we are told of infringement or where content is illegal.
The translation we return is yours. We claim no rights over your files or over the output.
Quality, honestly stated
Machine translation is not a human translator. The checks catch structural failures — dropped cues, truncation, wrong script, broken formatting — and they catch a great deal. They cannot guarantee that every line reads perfectly, and we do not claim they do.
Bulgarian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German and Italian have tuned language profiles. Polish and Russian are marked beta: they are translated and structurally checked, but have not had a native review.
Things we may refuse
Our translation provider applies its own content filters and occasionally refuses material. When that happens the affected cues come back in the source language and are reported to you rather than hidden. We may also decline or stop work that would exceed our per-job or daily cost limits.
Availability
This is a small service run by one operator. We do not offer an uptime guarantee. We aim to be careful with your files and your money, and the retention and refund behaviour described on these pages is enforced in code rather than by promise.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to the amount you paid for the job in question. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of a translation.
Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the date at the top of this page.
